- The South African writer and filmmaker, Lidudumalingani Mqombothi, has won the prestigious Caine Prize for his short story, Memories We Lost.
- The prize, launched in 2000, is awarded annually to an African writer of a short story published in English.
- The story about two sisters - one of whom is schizophrenic - interrogates some of the traditional beliefs and methods used to tackle the mental illness.
- Mqombothi has received the prestigious award at a dinner at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. With this, Lidudumalingani was awarded 10000 Euros and a month at Georgetown University in the US as a writer-in-residence.
- The Caine Prize, also referred as the African Booker is an annual literature prize awarded to an African writer of a short story published in the English language.
