BJP president Amit Shah unveiled the world’s largest wooden charkha, made by 42 carpenters in 55 days, at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
About Charkha:
- The four-tonne charkha is made of high-quality Burma teak wood
- It is estimated to last for over 50 years.
- It is 9 feet wide, 17 feet tall and 30 feet long.
- The order to make the spinning wheel was given to Paryog Samiti, a Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) unit, near Sabarmati Ashram.

Abbas Kiarostami, giant of Iran cinema, is no more
Acclaimed Iranian film-maker Abbas Kiarostami has died at the age of 76 in France following a battle with cancer, on Monday 6th July 2016 in Paris, France
About Kiarostami:

Cabinet approves redevelopment of 7 govt colonies in Delhi
Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday has approved redevelopment of seven General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies in New Delhi at total estimated cost of Rs 32,835 crores.
The redevelopment will take place in Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Nauroji Nagar through National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), while Kasturba Nagar, Thyagraj Nagar, Srinivaspuri and Mohammadpur will be redeveloped through Central Public Works Department (CPWD). The redevelopment project will replace the existing housing stock of 12,970 dwelling units of Type I to IV with Build Up Area (BUA) of approx. 7.49 lakh sqm with approx. 25,667 dwelling units of Type II to VI with BUA of approx. 29.18 lakh sqm. with supporting social infrastructure facilities.

Cabinet nod to Rs 10,000-cr apprenticeship promotion scheme
The Union Cabinet has approved a National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme to train 50 lakh apprentices by 2019-20. The Scheme involving a cost of Rs 10,000 crore will catalyze the entire apprenticeship ecosystem in the country.It will offer a win-win situation for all stakeholders and is expected to become one of the most powerful skill-delivery vehicle in the country.
The Scheme would be implemented by Director General of Training (DGT) under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).
Highlights
• It provides for incentivizing employers to engage apprentices.
• 25% of the total stipend payable to an apprentice would be shared with employers directly by Union Government.
• It also supports basic training, which is an essential component of apprenticeship training.
• 50% of the total expenditure incurred on providing basic training would be supported by Union Government.
